Do you know the feeling of expectation, the anxiety connected with something grandiose? And then, just like in the cases of Mona Lisa and Pietà, it's too far away behind too much plexiglass, and distant from your expectations.
This has been the very first book by this author I have read. I had high hopes since the Neapolitan novels were such a success. I was a bit disappointed around the middle of the book. Towards the end, the feeling the protagonist, Giovanna, still has the urge to please, and the ending is not as exciting as I was anticipating.
