Ellena Ferrante: The Lying Life of Adults

Do you know the feeling of expectation, the anxiety connected with something grandiose? And then, just like in the cases of Mona Lisa and Pietà, it's too far away behind too much plexiglass, and distant from your expectations.

This has been the very first book by this author I have read. I had high hopes since the Neapolitan novels were such a success. I was a bit disappointed around the middle of the book. Towards the end, the feeling the protagonist, Giovanna, still has the urge to please, and the ending is not as exciting as I was anticipating.
Keywords: lies, vulnerability, seeking truth, sexuality, disgust, puberty, disapproval, envy, loss of hope, confusion, adultery, faith, friendship, craziness, subservience, adulthood, parenthood, pride, self-worth, pettiness, intellectualism, urge to change and please.

Silvia Avallone: Da Dove La Vita E Perfetta

Perfect life can be an illusion

What is a perfect life? Husband, career, home, house, baby? Is it a viewpoint or a life perspective? Is it just a coincidence or is it a palpable place where it all makes sense?

A story of endless possibilities for one and no escape for another. In search to fill in the void, a desperate need for a child despite everyone and everything; a hopeless life on the periphery for a girl with an unwanted pregnancy.

A ruthless look at the life that no one wants, poverty, no father figures, and lack of opportunities.

In the end, there is always hope for brighter tomorrow.

If you love short story novels, Olive Kitteridge is the one for you.
A small town mentality full of secrecy, unfulfilled dreams, insecurity, and an elderly woman who is never satisfied and forever lonely in her heart.

A book full of everyday battles:
-a young girl, Amy, filled with emotions, fighting herself, her mom, and life
-Isabelle, a widow, leading unfulfilling life is in a love-hate relationship with her daughter and in love with her married boss.
I love realism in books. They make me think about my possible reactions and behavior in similar moments.

How to prevent the past from interfering with your future? How to make your absent dad stay absent so he cannot influence your life based on his actions? How to ensure your life will be worth living considering the culture you come from and the bias in society?
The aim of the author was to retell the story of Antigona by Sophocles using the language of British Muslims. Even if you do not know the story, the impact of a Home Fire is penetrating to the bone.
